Leaders of the Baptist World Alliance have met with religious and political leaders in Syria, Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan in order to achieve unity among Christian communities, greater understanding between Christian and Muslim faiths, and bring greater recognition to the work of the Baptist church in these countries. The leaders of the Baptist World Alliance conducted this whirlwind tour in order to make way for a peaceful celebration of the ministry of Jesus Christ in the years 2030-33 in the 'Holy Lands' with the entire worldwide Christian community. This event continues to demonstrate the moves towards increasing solidarity not only between Christians but between Christians and those of other faiths. Jesus said that He came to bring division, not solidarity. He said, "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household." (Matthew 10:34-36) It is not that Jesus wants division in families or even within the human race. However, He made it clear that those who follow Him will be naturally divided from the rest of society. They would be considered unacceptable outcasts. We are not to seek to form memorandums of understanding with other religions or seek to promote our work in society. We are to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ, as outlined in the Bible to all those that we meet. This will naturally cause division. Whilst we are to love and treat all people with respect, only those who do the will of the Heavenly Father can be considered brothers of the true Christian (Mathew 12:50).
