Recently, prominent ex-politician George Christiansen wrote an article published on the Daily Declaration called, "Only Christianity Can Save Australia." He points to declining birthrates, broken manhood, dishonest politicians, gender dysphoria, the collapse of the family and general societal division as indicators of the decline of Australia. If we were to be honest, most of the western world, if not the world in general, is  dealing with these issues. His suggested solution: Christianity. 

He wrote, 

"None of this could have taken hold so easily in a country that remained confident in its faith. Christianity gave Australians a standard outside politics. It reminded rulers that they were not gods, told citizens that liberty came with moral limits, and taught that every person would one day answer to a higher authority.

"Once that was pushed aside, desire took the place of duty. Personal preference became sacred. Institutions stopped asking whether something was good, true, or healthy and started asking whether it could be presented as progress."

He continued with,

"Christianity answers questions politics cannot touch. It tells a man that his life should be ordered towards service, sacrifice, and responsibility. It tells a woman that her worth does not depend on attention from strangers. It tells parents that raising children is sacred work and reminds the powerful that authority is a duty, not a licence to rule as they please."

As a publication that approaches world issues with a Christian and Biblical viewpoint, we would have to concur that Christianity is really the answer to all of the moral and societal decline that we see around the world. However, will it save Australia or any other country for that matter?

George Christiansen points back to a time when Christianity was much more  the norm of Western society and said, "Even people who rejected the church still lived by the moral habits Christianity had planted." That is no doubt true. Society in the past was generally more moral in the Western 'Christian' nations. However, there is no way that the tide is going to turn back as many like Mr. Christiansen are hoping. 

For millennia, there have been people who do not explicitly know the gospel and the truth according to Scripture, yet have done what is right according to the conviction of the Holy Spirit on their consciences (Romans 2:14-15). This is the group that Mr Christiansen talks about, who are moral yet don't profess Christianity. However, the apostle Paul warned of a time when the Holy Spirit would be withdrawn from the earth.

In 2 Thessalonians 2:7-10, he wrote, "For the mystery of iniquity does already work: only he who now restrains will do so, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked One be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the breath of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deception of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved." (KJ2000 edition)

In this era, where truth is painted as falsehood and lies are upheld as truth, people need to take a stand for truth to maintain a moral compass. However, when we are surrounded by so many voices, including the artificially generated ones of AI, how do we know what is true anymore? Unless we receive with gladness and submission Him who is True with the written Word that reveals the Truth (the Bible), we will not be moral. The reality is, "wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be who go in there" (Matthew 7:13). The majority of the world will choose to reject truth because it is uncomfortable, inconvenient, and may require them to re-evaluate their lives.

Under such circumstances, Christianity will never save Australia.
