Christian Daily International reported on June 10 that Kenya's President William Ruto instructed the Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba to begin formal consultations on how three Islamic education programs can be integrated into Kenya's Basic Education framework. These three programs are, according to reports, more like 'Sunday school' rather than serious academic programs. However, families that prefer to send their children do not typically engage with the formal education program of Kenya despite it offering optional religious instruction classes in Islam. There are concerns among the Christian community that the Kenyan government will provide preferential treatment to the muslim community recognising their Islamic instruction as formal education when it does not academically compare to that on offer within mainstream educational facilities.
